Every festival sells and/or provides food and drinks, during the building, execution and break-down of the festival. Food and drinks - including their production and distribution - have a major impact on a festivals’ footprint. This includes food and drinks for:
The impact of food and drinks on GHG emissions, material flows and environmental footprint, is determined by the way it is grown and processed, the location the food and drinks come from, and the amount of food that ends up as residual waste. All food and drinks sold and/or provided at the festival, are included in GHG Scope 3.
The emissions from the transportation of food & drinks to and from the festival site, are covered by the theme Travel & Transport. The emissions from packaging, serving materials and composting food-waste are covered by the theme Materials. The emissions from cooking, cooling and processing on site, are covered in the theme Energy. Therefore, the emissions counted in this theme only include the GHG emissions from the production and processing of food and drinks off-site.
