First Base targets

Compared to the ultimate goal, the following targets may be realised more easily and in a shorter term, and for more types of events:

• Festivals start with reducing to a minimum the use of non-essential water, by rethinking water-using processes and systems.
• 50% of non-drinking water comes from renewable sources, such as recycling water onsite, rainwater harvesting, watercourses or sustainable boreholes.
• Differentiation in the processing of types of wastewater: Yellow (urine), black (poo) and grey (washing) water.
• 100% of human waste is processed in such a way to recover and (re)use nutrients.
• Zero pollution to the local environment and surface and ground water, through strict working practices, testing and monitoring.
