Selling more than 1.2 million meals over the duration of the festival, Sziget Festival is very keen on increasing sustainable catering options.
For last weekend’s edition, all caterers were required to use local in-season produce, and encouraged to voluntarily comply with a baseline of other sustainability measures. Rethinking the system with their suppliers, the festival has come up with single-step solutions that are easy to apply - such as providing vegetarian/vegan options, reducing/eliminating red meat, utilizing environmentally friendly cleaning products and monitoring/reducing food waste.
Next year, vendors will be required to comply with at least two of these measures, and this number will increase incrementally in future years.
